I love celebrating life. I love all the normal holidays…Easter, Thanksgiving, Christmas, birthdays, etc. But I also love celebrating occasions that most people don’t know about. Today (March 1st) is Pig Day…now I wonder who thought of that!! About 15 years ago, I was an avid collector of pig paraphernalia…so when I discovered that there was an actual Pig Day, my friend, Robin & I decided to celebrate. Because of our love for shoes and our fear of answering to our then-husbands, we decided to buy each other a pair of shoes to celebrate the day. That way, when our husbands said “What! You bought another pair of shoes??!!”, we could honestly say….”Oh no, Robin bought these for me!” I know…that’s deceitful…believe me, I still feel bad about it! But I have some great shoes to con"sole" me!!
Any way....15 years later, we still love shoes, and the husbands....well, that story is way too long....Robin & I still celebrate Pig Day and we're meeting Saturday to buy each other a pair of shoes. Just another way to celebrate life...now I need to think of a holiday where we buy each other a purse!!

ReplyDeleteAhhhhh, yes! Who could forget where they were on Pig day, 1996? The only reason to bring home the bacon these days is to squeal with delight over a new pair of shoes!
ReplyDeleteThe first year, I believe, we found ourselves at Payless taking advantage of the "buy 1 get 1 free" option, so we ended up spending something like $15 a piece! Of course, over the years, it has evolved: one year, we spent over $50, one year, believe it or not, I found NO shoes, and Wanda found 3, or was it 4?! (She is such a ham bone!)
So, here we go...yet another year, when I will hold up my newly purchased shoes and proclaim, "That'll do pig, That'll do!"
